Hello Curriculum Thinkers,
Understandably, assessment at KS3 is high on the agenda at the moment.
Many schools have made the switch between a 2 and 3 year KS3.
All schools are dealing with the lack of KS2 following the pandemic.
While it does provide an opportunity to craft an approach from scratch that’s best for your students, it is not a small task.
It’s big and it throws up a lot of questions: frequency, formats, quality assurance, consistency across different departments, reporting and more.
That’s why we’ve set up…
A National KS3 Assessment Resource Drive.
To give you as much insight into how other schools are approaching it and to save you from reinventing the wheel, we’ve set up a shared drive for Curriculum Thinkers members so you can upload and share resources like:
Policies
Calendars
Staff guidance
Reporting to parents
Subject specific examples < we’ve had lots of requests for these, so share generously.
If you believe sharing is caring and you want to see how others are approaching KS3 assessment, say the magic word…✨
When you’re using it, please respect these 8 guidelines.

🎥+📎 Re-developing assessment at KS3 - National Curriculum SLT Community discussion group.
On Tuesday night Jess Giraud (DHT, The Oldham Academy North), shared their KS3 assessment model:
how they approach frequency
how their assessment links to curriculum
what the intended impact is and
how they report to parents.
Craig Follett, Debs Hawkins and Rachel Appleyard quizzed Jess about how they ensure consistency, staff tracking, what it means for practical subjects, what marking and feedback looks like and more.
