Four questions to ask about reading across the curriculum.
Hello Curriculum Thinkers,
It was fascinating to see recently more curriculum leaders focusing on literacy and reading in their subjects than any other cross curricular lever. More than booklets. More than diversity. More than retrieval.
It makes sense. If you can’t read, you can’t access the curriculum. If you can’t access the curriculum, you can’t succeed.
But how do you keep on top leading reading across your curriculum? And what questions can you ask colleagues to ensure reading continues to improve?
Here are four things students need when they cannot read accurately or automatically, according to a recent inspectorate publication.👇
From these four things you can ask…
4️⃣ questions about reading across the curriculum:
What is your synthetic phonics programme?
How do you match texts to pupils’ phonic knowledge?
How will you train experts to deliver the programme?
How and when will it be delivered?
Not easy to answer. Not least of all because there’s a lot to know about.

📺 SEND: how to have line management conversations in an area you have no experience leading - a(nother) role play
Every student deserves to be able to access the curriculum regardless of their needs.
But leading, managing and improving SEND provision is hard. Especially if you’ve never led it before.
Join us for part 2 of 2 to learn how to structure a line management conversation in an area you have no experience of leading.
Observe what this looks like in action in the context of SEND through a role play between a Principal and Vice Principal (i/c SEND).
