⯠Embedding literacy and reading across the curriculum
Literacy is key to success.
If you canât read, you canât access the curriculum. If you canât access the curriculum, you canât succeed.
Here are 18 talks (and nearly 70+ subject specific resources) shared by members of the Curriculum Thinkers Community on improving literacy and reading across the curriculum.
We've also included a number oracy talks.
đ€ Learn about your fellow curriculum leadersâ experiences
Want to play the role of the Ofsted inspector who did your subject deep dive to celebrate your work?
OR
Want to learn about the experiences of other senior and subject leaders who've been through one already?
Whatâs this all about?
One of the most popular sessions weâve run this year was âOfsted under the new framework: how we articulated our curriculum (by Da Vinci Academy)â.
During the session Adam Blake, Deputy Head (Quality of Education) played the role of the inspector in a reconstruction of their Ofsted.
He asked his curriculum leaders Matt Harris (Curriculum Leader for Humanities) and Sara Gilliver (Leader for History) the exact same questions they were asked during their deep dive.
Listening to the questions was so useful. But hearing their answers was even more so.
You often get to learn about the former but rarely the latter.
Why are we telling you this?
Weâre looking to put similar sessions across as many subjects as possible over the coming weeks and months.
If youâre a:
Senior leader or faculty leader on this very special listâŠ
with responsibility for developing curriculum across a number of departments
who has been through a successful Ofsted
who wants to celebrate and share the good work you been doing
OR youâre a:
Senior leader or faculty leader andâŠ
youâre in an inspection window
you want to speak to senior and curriculum leaders about their experiences
đŹ Curriculum Intent: how to embed across the school (discussion group)
VP at member school Northampton Academy - Owen Jones - posted:
âHi I'm Owen VP responsible for curriculum. We have been doing a lot of work around curriculum coverage across every class in all subjects which I am happy to discuss.
âI am looking for examples of strategies on how you share whole school curriculum intent across the school to embed within the day to day culture.â
So weâve helped him set up a discussion group.
Heâll start by sharing his work briefly and then facilitating a group discussion to pull together strategies from the groups.
Come prepared to share your approach and any resources youâre working on with this group of friendly senior leaders in charge of curriculum.

Members will be able to access the following resources afterwards:
đ Anonymised curriculum review: feedback and actions.
đ Anonymised cross subject curriculum coverage framework.
To make this as useful to everyone as possible, please bring your own and be ready to share afterwards.
